Meet Michael from Inland Marine

Michael from Inland MarineWhy did you decide to pursue a career in the insurance industry?

Two summers ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a two-part internship with an insurance and reinsurance company overseas; first with the reinsurance brokerage in London and then with the carrier in the Middle East. I was able to experience insurance from both an underwriting and brokerage perspective. I enjoyed the distinct challenges posed by both fields, and decided to pursue a career in insurance.

Why did you specifically choose to work for AGCS?

Having been exposed to insurance in foreign markets, I wanted to work for a global company like AGCS. I knew that AGCS’ global network and breadth of expertise would provide the flexibility and growth opportunities necessary to build a successful career in the industry. Furthermore, I wanted to work for a company that would be invested in my long-term development and success. I was fortunate enough to find people at AGCS that would foster that development through training and mentorship.

What do you like best about working at AGCS?

AGCS has a very dynamic culture that encourages looking intelligently at risks that many insurers would not consider and developing an entrepreneurial way of thinking. I also appreciate that despite being success-oriented and results-driven, the company is very focused on its employees maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

What do you like best about your role at AGCS?

Underwriting offers the perfect blend of critical thinking and relationship management. From interacting with brokers to analyzing coverage, every day offers a multitude of diverse and exciting challenges. Similarly, the wide range of products and business opportunities means there are always things to learn and ways to progress.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? What would you like to achieve?

In 5 years I plan to have completed two underwriting designations, and manage my own territory as a Marine Underwriter for AGCS.
