Meet Julia from Operations

AGCS Canada (Toronto)

Julia Tung at workHow did you hear about AGCS?

AGCS is well known in the industry, I initially started at a brokerage so I’ve dealt with AGCS previously and the company always left a good impression with me.

What makes AGCS different from other insurers and why did you choose to apply here?

What really captured me was the good word of mouth from the brokers. AGCS gathered a great supportive network for their employees and even their clients were able to see this. To me that sat at the top of my list.

What was your first day at AGCS like? Any specific moments that you remember?

I first started after Christmas and it was most hectic, but I was really impressed that people took time out of their schedules to introduce themselves. The fact that it was from employees from all departments meant I really felt like I was home. It's a tradition that all new employees are welcomed with open arms.

What do you like best about working at AGCS?

AGCS really takes the time to maintain the lines of communication with all departments. I really appreciate this because it keeps me informed about what's happening with the company and how it will affect my job in a daily basis. There's always something going on in our branch, may it be big quarterly meetings or just regular department meetings; it really gives the impression that we are "one company" and no one is left in the dark.

What does a typical working day in your current role entail?

I wish I could narrow it down what I exactly do on a daily basis but everyday is different. It generally consists of supporting the underwriting department we’re assigned to and dealing with issues that come up in our accounts. What’s really great is we have such a wide scope of responsibilities; there are always opportunities to expand and apply ourselves to different areas from requesting ARC information to the standard renewal procedures.

Can you describe your job in three sentences?

Prepare for the next renewal - there's always one coming up. Keep the files neat - it really helps a lot. Lastly, keep Salesforce open on your computer because there's always something that needs to be updated.

Can you describe the most challenging situation that you have faced in this company?

One of the most challenging situations I've experience was when I was given the opportunity to learn about Salesforce (the customer relationship management tool AGCS works with). I took this task head on but I have to admit learning a new system from scratch was not easy and I’m still learning more every day.
